Extract of unedited footage from a speech given by Malalai Joya at the Armidale Town Hall September 5th.

Hosted by New England Writers Centre,Women In Black, Peace Studies UNE, Uniting Church Armidale and Socialist Alliance.
Malalai’s speech – Afghanistan Ten Years On – Why Western Troops Must Leave.
Production partner – Little Owl Productions

Rushed upload to Vimeo as Malalai was facing surgery ahead of major public meetings in Sydney at the end of that week. Organisers were planning to screen this as an alternative. With unwavering determination, Malalai made it to both meetings and was met with standing ovations.

Have returned to collaboration on another theatre project with Sue Fell & theatre students from UNE.

Last year is was a contemporary take on a classic play. This year it’s reworking folk tales and storytelling.

9/10/11  has emerged from initial concepts that Sue & I added to the notion of actor-as-storyteller, folk tales and stories from the Grimm Brothers.

We framed it initailly as 10 stories of 9 minutes duration – calling it a Modern Day Decameron.

This was mashed with a response to the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on New York.

Again, student Matt Wittingham has taken initial poster ideas and provided an elegant & simple design.

Here’s the draft sketch of our first design ideas alongside Matt’s designs. And a remix of his poster as an eFlyer used in the marketing of the event.
