Here’s the short video made for the New England Regional Art Museum covering the Myall Creek Massacre 180th Memorial events, June 8-10th.

NERAM commissioned a group of artists to create work that reflected their response to the place and its history as the site of a massacre of local indigenous people in 1838. This 2 year project became the Myall Creek and Beyond exhibition that opened on Friday June 8th, following a full day symposium held at the Oorala Aboriginal Centre at the University of New England.

On the Saturday the artists presented a series of public talks on their works ahead of the main event on Sunday June 10th – the Commemoration event held at Myall Creek. An estimated more than 1000 people gathered over the 3 days.

SVM was privileged to be commissioned to document the events – a wonderful collaboration between community, acadmedics, artists and the descendants of both the perpetrators and victims, acknowledging a painful time in Australia’s history.
